Weather Update | 01.12.2024
Well, BCPS, the weather forecast for the weekend into early next week is looking grim... We wanted to let you know that we are doing all we can to actively monitor the situation so that we can be as proactive as possible in making decisions for next week.
Please know that not only are we looking at snow forecasts, but we are also keeping an eye on potential frigid temperatures as well -- both of these factors will play into any decisions made for next week.
Should we need to call an NTI Day or a Traditional Snow/Weather Day, we will communicate that ASAP. Please see the information on "How Does BCPS 'Make the Call'?" to learn more about our decision-making processes.
How Does BCPS "Make the Call" on Weather Days?
Dr. Bacon monitors weather forecasts to the greatest extent possible.
For any decision, BCPS works to "make the call" with as much advance notice as we can.
Decisions for Poor Weather
Typically beginning around 3 AM on mornings when snow has fallen, BCPS has a team of drivers that take to our local roads to determine potential travel impacts.
These drivers report road conditions back to Dr. Bacon for the final determination.
BCPS makes every effort to have a final decision made and communicated to families no later than 5 AM on the day of a weather event.
Decisions for Freezing Temperatures
These decisions work a bit differently as we typically "make the call" based on forecasted temperatures.
BCPS makes every effort to have final temperature-based decisions made and communicated to families the day before.
