Bullitt County, KY — Overdale Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day with an unforgettable moment as Lance Corporal Dallas Farmer, U.S. Marines, returned home from deployment to surprise his younger brother, Austin, a fifth-grader at Overdale. This special reunion took place during the school’s annual Veterans Day program, designed to honor and recognize the contributions of veterans within the community.
The program, held on Veterans Day, featured several moving tributes, including a posting of colors by the North Bullitt ROTC, performances of the National Anthem and "America, the Beautiful" by the North Bullitt Band, and heartfelt songs by Overdale Elementary’s 3rd and 4th graders. Lance Corporal Farmer’s reunion with his brother added an extra layer of significance to the day, embodying the deep bonds of family and service.
“We are honored to host this reunion and to recognize the bravery and dedication of our veterans,” said Tonya Holt, principal of Overdale Elementary. “This moment between Dallas and Austin is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices military families make and the support our community offers in return.”
The program concluded with a moment of silence and Taps, followed by a reception where veterans were invited to enjoy refreshments with students and staff. The Overdale Elementary Veterans Day program continues to serve as a meaningful event that unites students, families, and veterans, highlighting the invaluable contributions of our servicemen and women.
