BCPS

Bullitt County, KY — Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to share the success of its innovative approach to education, presented recently at a national forum. The BCPS team, led by Superintendent, Dr. Jesse Bacon, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Adrienne Usher, Michael Ekbundit, industry partner and parent, and David Cook, CEO of Learning Ecosystems Design, shared insights into the district’s journey toward a community-driven transformation that emphasizes student-centered learning and sustainable, inclusive growth.

The presentation, titled "Community-Driven Transformation: One District’s Journey to a Stronger WHO and WHY," highlighted BCPS’s commitment to co-creating vibrant, real-world learning experiences by engaging key community stakeholders. Through this approach, BCPS aims to build a sustainable educational model that involves students, families, local businesses, and political leaders as active partners in shaping the future of education.

This transformation is about more than academic achievement,” said Superintendent Jesse Bacon. “It’s about building relationships and creating a supportive, inclusive environment where every voice matters. We’re bringing our community into the educational process to ensure our efforts resonate and endure.”

BCPS’s innovative model aligns with the three big ideas from the Kentucky Department of Education’s "United We Learn" report:

  1. Vibrant Learning Experiences that foster engagement through hands-on, relevant education.

  2. Innovation in Assessment to more accurately reflect student growth and learning.

  3. Community Engagement and Partnerships that encourage collaboration and shared responsibility for student success.

Director of Engineering Programs at GE Appliances, Michael Ekbundit illustrated how BCPS has forged meaningful connections with local stakeholders to create authentic, learner-centered practices. BCPS’s journey reflects a belief that educational transformation must involve the "WHO" (the community) and the "WHY" (the purpose) to be successful and sustainable.

Dr. Carmen Coleman Goodin, a noted figure in Kentucky’s educational landscape, praised BCPS’s efforts, noting, “Bullitt County is an important district to learn from, as they are thoughtfully and systematically reshaping the student experience.”

The BCPS team’s presentation offered attendees valuable strategies for engaging stakeholders and fostering a collaborative culture in education. By aligning community needs with educational goals, BCPS is setting a benchmark for innovation and impact across Kentucky and beyond.
