Students at Mt. Washington Elementary School (MWES) are making a difference! Fourth graders at MWES recently participated in a national service challenge through Time for Kids, and their efforts have been recognized in the publication’s latest edition.
As part of the challenge, Ms. Downs’s students read to younger children and created guides on building kind and inclusive spaces. Their goal was to promote empathy and kindness, demonstrating the power of small actions to make a big impact. This challenge perfectly aligns with the BCPS Graduate Profile, particularly the Community Contributor competency, as students took initiative to support and uplift those around them.
MWES Principal, Mrs. Leslie Weihe, shared her excitement about the recognition:
"Our students and teachers are always looking for ways to go beyond the classroom and make a difference. This service challenge allowed them to apply their learning in a meaningful way, and I’m thrilled to see their efforts recognized on a national stage!"
This recognition is a proud moment for BCPS and a testament to our commitment to developing students who are future-focused, service-minded, and ready to contribute to their communities.
