Bullitt County, KY — Bullitt Virtual Learning Academy (BVLA) students are gaining hands-on experience in problem-solving and marketing strategy through an exciting partnership with local business owner Alex Meincken of Clear Choice Insurance Agency. This collaboration, made possible through the connection by Dr. Lee Barger, Bullitt County Public School’s Director of College and Career Readiness and Innovation, gives students the opportunity to tackle a real-world business challenge while applying their classroom learning in a meaningful way.

Under the leadership of Principal Dominic McCamish, BVLA prioritizes student-focused, innovative learning experiences. Business & Marketing Essentials teacher Julie McNeese embraced this philosophy by designing a project that puts students in charge of analyzing and addressing a communication gap at Clear Choice Insurance Agency. The issue? Many clients have not provided email addresses, leading to difficulties in maintaining timely communication.

Mr. Meincken, an enthusiastic supporter of the project, presented students with this challenge and engaged in a detailed Zoom session where students asked many thoughtful questions to fully understand the scope of the issue. From there, students worked collaboratively—analyzing information, brainstorming strategies, and refining their top five recommendations. Their proposals will be formally presented to Mr. Meincken, who will provide feedback and ultimately implement selected strategies with a dedicated budget of $500-$1,000.

Beyond the initial implementation, students will track the effectiveness of their solutions by reviewing data and making ongoing recommendations, reinforcing their roles as Innovative Problem Solvers, Productive Collaborators, and Effective Communicators—all key competencies in the BCPS Graduate Profile.

"This project is a perfect example of what education should be—engaging, relevant, and empowering for students," said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Jesse Bacon. "We want our students to graduate with real-world skills that prepare them for success beyond the classroom. Partnerships like this one provide invaluable experiences that build confidence, creativity, and problem-solving abilities."

"This project has been an incredible experience for our students," said McNeese. "They are highly engaged, and the ownership they feel over this work is remarkable. Mr. Meincken has gone above and beyond to ensure they have a true stake in the success of their strategies."

BCPS is proud to support authentic learning experiences like this that empower students to apply their skills in real-world settings, preparing them to succeed in life.
