Students in Mr. Tackett’s Introduction to Programming and Advanced Game Publishing classes received their very own rubber duck today. In the computer programming industry, it is a common practice for programmers to have a rubber duck at their desk to assist them with debugging, or finding errors, in their code. The practice is called “Rubber Duck Debugging”. Programmers will read their code, line-by-line, to the rubber duck, to check for syntax and/or logic errors that they may otherwise overlook. The rubber duck is a “stand-in” for others working on their team. More often than not, by doing this, programmers find simple mistakes in their code, which saves time when working on large projects. This practice will be implemented in the two classes mentioned earlier to better simulate a real world working environment for those students.
