On Friday, September 9th, Bernheim Middle School welcomed James Harrington, the CEO and Founder of the Ugandan Water Project to a kick-off assembly for our community service project. Students participated in an interactive presentation led by Mr. Harrington. The educational and engaging assembly focused on Uganda, the water crisis, and how our students can be a part of making a tangible and lasting impact!
After learning about children in their age group living a life of survival in Uganda, the students have committed to help fund a rainwater collection system for a school in Uganda between September 9th - September 30th. During the assembly, Mr. Harrington shared the exciting news that the The Louisville Water Foundation has heard about our students and agreed to match our fundraising efforts! This match will allow students to double their success and help more students in Uganda!
Through this partnership, BMS students will connect what they are learning or have learned in the classroom to a real-world issue with real-world faces affected by the water crisis. Mr. James Carnes has shared the book, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, with his classes over the years. Now, he has coordinated this opportunity to allow our students to take action and contribute to a community across the world. Service is an important part of our community and this is a great way for our students, families, and teachers to actively be involved in compassionate action!
