Mrs. Dixon's 4th grade class had an amazing time this week exploring the circulatory and respiratory systems through some exciting experiments! They investigated how exercise impacts their heart rates and body systems. First, they did a minute of exercise and recorded their heart rates. Then, they did a minute of deep breathing and recorded their heart rates again.

At Old Mill Elementary, K-5 students have been hard at work in a unique PBL Top Golf unit, partnering with Mrs. Boston, our amazing PE teacher! This unit mixes science and math standards with a focus on being *productive collaborators* — part of our Bullitt County Graduate Profile!
Kindergarten is practicing identifying larger numbers, while 5th graders are adding and subtracting decimals. Our 3rd graders even got to hear from former Old Mill student Isaac Lewis, now a BE golfer, as he shared how their force and motion standards impact a golfer’s swing!

This week's teacher spotlight goes out to Mrs. Compton, our incredible STEAM teacher at Old Mill! Not only does she oversee the daily broadcast crew, but she’s also started a photography club and a podcasting team this year, tapping into students' passions and letting them take the lead. Her dedication to helping students shine is inspiring. She always gives 100 percent in every lesson, manages our social media, and even helps coach our basketball team! We're so lucky to have her!

Entries for the Red Ribbon (Really Excellent Decisions) and Safe School contests are being accepted now and through Oct. 30th! Winners will be chosen in every grade level! Please reach out to Mrs. Melcher with any questions.

Shout out to the incredible BE students and Mrs. Richardson who joined us at OMES today for our first-ever Culture Fair! These students took time out of their day to share about their home countries, bringing our community closer through their stories and knowledge. Thank you for making this morning such a special and enriching experience for our students!

Today, our students had the opportunity to "travel" to 12 different countries through fascinating artifacts and cultural information. This event served as the exciting entry point to our Learning Excursions, where students will dive deeper into each country every Monday. It was an eye-opening and enriching experience, and we are so grateful to the volunteers who generously shared their time and knowledge!

We had a great first week back from Fall Break! We can't wait to see everyone on Monday. Have a great weekend!
