At OMES, we are lucky to have a 4th Grade Team that goes above and beyond to make learning meaningful, engaging, and deeply connected to the real world. These educators have worked tirelessly to bring community members into the building, giving students the opportunity to learn directly from experts and see firsthand how they can contribute to their community. From conservation efforts with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to hands-on projects that make abstract concepts tangible, the 4th grade team is dedicated to creating authentic, real-world learning experiences. More than just teachers, they are role models of the BCPS Grad Profile competencies, demonstrating productive collaborators, self-directed navigators, and community contributors in all they do. Their dedication to fostering curiosity, responsibility, and a love for learning is shaping students into lifelong learners and future leaders. This year, our Related Arts team has been implementing micro-credentials in K-5, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their growth and achievements in their related arts classes. These micro-credentials highlight students’ mastery of essential “power standards” in subjects like music, art, library, physical education, and STEAM. Once all evidence is submitted and criteria are met, students will earn a micro-credential to recognize their accomplishments! You’ll have the chance to see these young artists, musicians, athletes, and innovators in action during our Spring Showcase! Students will proudly display some of the work they are most passionate about, giving you a glimpse into their learning journey. We can’t wait to celebrate their success together!

Our fourth-grade students had the incredible opportunity to learn from Jessica Thornton, Economic and Community Development Director for the City of Mt. Today, Hadley Boone, Quinn Hartness, and Selina Forman proudly represented Old Mill Elementary at the Gifted Education Proclamation Signing in Frankfort! As winners of our 5th-grade Gifted Education Month contest, they earned the opportunity to visit the Capitol Building, tour the historic halls, and advocate for gifted education alongside other students from across the state. We are so proud of these students for their creativity, hard work, and leadership!
