Tomorrow is the last day for the book fair! It has been a great week seeing all of our koalas picking out their favorite books. If your child has not been able to shop yet you still have time. Professional learning is important for teachers because it helps them stay updated on new teaching strategies and techniques. It allows them to enhance their skills and knowledge, benefiting our students' learning experience. Mrs. Compton and Mrs. Welch went to Mammoth Cave and received great resources, materials, and real life experiences to bring back to the classroom to our OMES Koalas. The teacher workshop that they attended focused on ecosystems and adaptations. #koalascreate

"Ms. Mason has done an amazing job jumping right in to Old Mill and has been willing to do whatever it takes to create a love for books and literacy in our students. This week's Community Spotlight recognizes Bernheim Forest. Cele Beckner, a volunteer Naturalist, shared with all of our Old Mill students what being a naturalist is all about! Ms. Beckner encouraged our students to stay curious, explore nature, and keep their minds open for a career in the natural resources or tourism cluster of Kentucky careers! We appreciate Bernheim’s collaboration and look forward to more partnerships with them in the future. #koalascreate

3rd grade students learned about the characteristics of birds and how their wings are shaped to help them glide for long periods of time when flying. They used the engineering design process to make a glider inspired by bird wings! Students showed teamwork and accountability by working together to create, revise, and discover the best design to glide as far, and long, as possible. KOALAS C.R.E.A.T.E.!

Movie Night was a huge success! 🍿🎥 We love seeing our families come together for after school events! Thank you to all that came out and thank to you our PTO for hosting this fun event for our Old Mill community!

Mrs. Myers’ Kindergarten class celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day this week.  They arrrrre pretty cute!  #koalascreate #koalascelebrate

Congratulations to the 2023-2024 OMES Archery Team. The first practice is on Monday after school until 5:30 and a required parent meeting to follow. We can´t wait for a great archery season.

Shout out to two of our third graders, Claire and Olivia! "Without being asked, they saw a student sitting by herself at lunch and they left their table to come and sit with her. They didn't want her to feel alone."

Want to be able to Book Fair shop with your child after school? Ms. Mason is hosting an after school Book Fair night to give families this opportunity on Tuesday from 4-6. Mrs. Joiner will also be having a Rooms Support Q & A in the STEAM Lab for anyone that needs to pop in for some help with our new communication app! We hope to see you there!

Day 3 of start with hello week! Students wore green to show our school’s commitment to creating an inclusive school community and our promise to be kind. Students were also challenged today to wear your best smile and show it all day long!

Day 2 of our start with hello week. Students lit up someone’s world today by wearing bright colors! Students also were challenged to start a conversation with someone they have never spoken to before or someone they haven’t talked to for a long time.

This weeks staff spotlight goes to Mrs. Polson. "Mrs. Polson is a wonderful team leader. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, and helpful in many different ways. She is very efficient with our big picture plans and so kind to help us. Her heart is not only big for all of her kids, but for us as her team." #koalascreate

Today we kicked off the first day of Start with Hello. Students dressed in their favorite things! Wear something to show us one of your favorite things. Students were also challenged to create their own personal handshake or “Hello” style and use it this week to greet others!
