What an incredible kickoff to Leadership Week for the 2026-2027 school year!
Our district and school leaders spent Day 1 completely immersed in deepening our understanding of the Community Based Accountability pillars. It takes an immense amount of dedication to get to this point, nearly 10 years of intentional work have gone into building the foundation we stand on today.
As Dr. Bacon powerfully reminded us: "Revolutionary changes require BOLD leadership."
We are incredibly proud of the leaders who step up every single day to help BCPS Move Forward. We are energized, focused, and excited to work hand-in-hand to support our amazing BCPS students, staff, and community! ✨

🎒 BCPS Kindergarten Readiness: Week 5️⃣ Health & Physical Well-Being 🎒
We are in the home stretch, BCPS! Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 12th!
Have you registered for the 26-27 school year? Any child who is 5 years old on or before August 1st is eligible to register for kindergarten.
To ensure our young learners are fully Kinder Ready and physically prepared for the exciting school day, this week we are focusing heavily on physical well-being, motor development, and daily independence!
Fostering self-help skills and physical wellness gives your child the ultimate confidence boost, helping them thrive safely from day one:
▪️Gross Motor Skills: Running, jumping, climbing, and demonstrating basic balance, such as standing on one foot.
▪️Fine Motor Skills: Practicing holding a pencil or crayon correctly, and using child-safe scissors.
▪️Physical Wellness: Making sure your child is well-rested, has up-to-date immunizations, and passes required vision, hearing, and dental screenings.
▪️Classroom Independence: Navigating independent restroom use, managing clothing, and learning to follow simple rules and multi-step routines.
💡 Family Tips for Summer Practice:
▪️Playground Power & Scissor Safety: Visit local parks to climb, balance, and jump, which builds the core strength needed for sitting at a desk. At home, let them practice cutting playdough, scrap paper, or straws with child-safe scissors to build hand strength.
▪️Independent Restroom & Wardrobe Check: Ensure your child can use the restroom, wipe, and wash their hands thoroughly with soap completely unassisted. Practice zipping jackets, buttoning pants, and managing belts .
▪️Establish a School Sleep Routine: Start adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times now so your child is well-rested. Practice giving multi-step instructions around the house (e.g., "Please take off your shoes, put them away, and go wash your hands").
We can't wait to welcome our new students to the BCPS family. Let's Move Forward together! 🎒✨

Four Bullitt East archers stepped off their own practice floor and into something bigger. Ethan Vincent, Sawyer DeBlasi, and Micah DiChiara (all freshmen) and junior Owen Schneider volunteered their time week after week to mentor the Pleasant Grove Elementary archery team, supporting two first-time coaches as they got a brand-new program off the ground.
These students brought more than skill to the gym. They taught proper technique, made sure the team stayed true to NASP standards, and encouraged young archers who were experiencing the sport for the very first time. Their patience and dedication made a real difference for both the coaches and the kids they were coaching.
What these four demonstrated is exactly what a Community Contributor looks like: recognizing a need and showing up to meet it. We are so proud of the impact they've made on the Pleasant Grove archery community!

We are throwing it back to last month's graduation ceremony at Alltech Research Farm to shine a much-deserved spotlight on four of our incredible BCPS leaders! 🎓✨

North Bullitt High School senior Aleah Lester was named the Most Outstanding Army JROTC Cadet for the Louisville region on May 15th. She received the Patriot Award, a coin of excellence, and a $400 check at the Louisville Armed Forces Dinner, where military leaders from across the region were in attendance.
Aleah's recognition reflects the work she puts in every day. From leading within the North Bullitt JROTC program to representing her school and community at a regional level, she sets goals and follows through. That is exactly what it means to be a Self-Directed Navigator.
We are so proud of you, Cadet Lester. The work shows.

Avery O'Bryan, a senior at Bullitt East High School, closed out the 2026 Bullitt County Fair as Supreme Champion, capping off a show season she can be proud of. That kind of result does not happen without months of preparation, and Avery's work ethic is a clear example of what it means to be a Self-Directed Navigator.
The fair wrapped with plenty of community spirit, with fellow students Grace Gumm and Emily McCafferty helping organize the show and distribute awards. For Avery, though, this season has been about setting goals, putting in the work, and seeing it pay off in the show ring.
We are proud to celebrate Avery and the season she's had!

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Officer Larry Priddy & K9 Vader 🌟
As a School Resource Officer serving ZMS, BES, MES, and OES, Officer Larry Priddy embodies what it means to say Students Matter Most, and his four-legged partner, Vader, is right there with him every step of the way.
On June 10th, Officer Priddy took that commitment beyond BCPS hallways, presenting at the Kentucky Safe Schools and Communities Conference. There, he shared how he and Vader support the students and staff across their schools, giving other districts a look at what dedicated, relationship-based safety work looks like in practice.
Thank you, Officer Priddy, for showing up for our students and staff every single day, and thank you, Vader, for being the best kind of good boy on the job.

BCPS Kindergarten Readiness: Week 4️⃣: Language & Communication✨
Welcome to Week 4 of our Kinder Ready series! Being able to communicate clearly helps your child advocate for themselves, express their feelings, and connect with their peers. Over the summer, families can play a huge role in building communication confidence to ensure our young learners are Kinder Ready!
You can help support your child's speech and listening growth by practicing these milestones through daily conversations:
◾Expression: Encourage speaking in complete sentences of 5 to 6 words to express clear needs, wants, and ideas.
◾Comprehension: Practice listening to a short story and answering simple questions about what happened.
◾Phonological Awareness: Help them recognize simple rhyming words and sing basic songs together.
◾Personal Info: Ensure your child knows and can clearly state their first and last name, as well as their age.
💡 Family Tips for Summer Practice:
◾The "Who, What, Where" Game: After reading a book together, ask your child simple questions like, "Who was your favorite character?" or "Where did they go?" to build comprehension.
◾Rhyme Time: Play rhyming games in the car or while making dinner. Say a word like "cat" and take turns naming words that rhyme (hat, mat, sat).
◾The Identification Drill: Make sure your child practices stating their full name and age clearly. Avoid using nicknames during this practice so they are confident in introducing themselves to new friends.

Some students leave a legacy that extends beyond the classroom, and Peggy Lynch is one of them. A 12th grade senior representing both Bullitt Virtual Learning Academy and North Bullitt High School, Peggy has been inducted into the NBHS Bowling Hall of Fame, a milestone that reflects years of dedication to her craft.
Peggy's journey embodies what it means to be a Self-Directed Navigator. She has pursued her goals with focus and intentionality across two schools, charting her own course and earning a place in history along the way.
We are so proud of Peggy and everything she has accomplished. Congratulations on this incredible honor! 🎳

Hannah Sutherland doesn't just compete against the field. She competes against herself. The Bullitt East High School junior broke her own 100m hurdle record for the third time, crossing the finish line with a time of 14.93.
Setting a personal record once takes talent. Breaking your own record three times takes the kind of goal-setting, determination, and drive that defines a Self-Directed Navigator. Hannah keeps raising her own bar, and Bullitt East keeps cheering her on.
We are so proud of you, Hannah!

After years of dedicated service to Bullitt County Public Schools, Melissa Lambert, Administrative Assistant in the Department of Pupil Personnel, has retired. And the way she showed up for families right to the end says everything about who she is.
A community member shared this about a recent interaction with Melissa: "I had a great experience on the phone today with Melissa Lambert. She was kind and caring through the whole phone call. She took the time to explain stuff to me, and I was grateful that she was able to help me understand the process."
That is Service Before Self in action. Not a program. Not a policy. A person who answered the phone, slowed down, and made someone feel seen when they needed help navigating something unfamiliar.
Thank you, Melissa, for bringing that kind of care to every family you served. BCPS is better because of you.
