Each week of the high school sports season, The Courier Journal recognizes one exceptional athlete who has gone above and beyond in their recent events. Who will be this week's winner?

Katherine Cissell, Bullitt East, volleyball
Bullitt East senior Katherine Cissell had an exceptional week in leading the team to a 3-0 record. In victories over Shelby County (25-12, 25-14, 25-6), Nelson County (27-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22) and Eastern (25-14, 25-6, 25-10), Cissell combined for 38 kills, seven blocks, four assists, four digs and an ace.

Gayle Rushing and Sam Weddle have been accepted into the Louisville Youth Symphony Orchestra. This is a huge honor for a wind player to be accepted as this is one of the finest youth orchestras in the United States.

This year’s theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
POSTER CONTEST: All winners must relate to the theme “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free.”
Poster Guidelines: Posters must be student-generated and created by individuals, not classrooms or groups. Must be Regular Poster-Board size (22” 28”) and Student-Generated (can be both posters or Google slide posters for social media use. The student must use their own artistic abilities and center on the themes. The poster theme must reflect the message “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free.”
ESSAY CONTEST: The topic is drug prevention and should focus on the theme: “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free”
Essay Guidelines: Essays can be either handwritten or typed. The message must be drug & alcohol prevention or awareness.
