This week's student spotlight goes out to Julia, Nyxen, Maddie, and Valarie. "Shoutout to these amazing fifth graders for putting together a fantastic math lesson for our first-grade students! The little ones had a blast learning from and spending time with their fifth-grade teachers. Thank you all for your hard work and leadership!" -Mr. Ezell

Our first grade team—Mrs. Bray, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Jump, and Mr. Ezell—brings learning to life with love and laughter. You build confidence, curiosity, and character in every child who walks through your doors. Thank you for all you do to make first grade such a special place to grow!

To our amazing bus drivers—you are the first friendly face many of our students see each morning, and the last one they see at the end of the day. Thank you for keeping our Koalas safe and cared for on their journeys to and from school. Your role is essential, and we are so grateful!

Today was another incredible day of Staff Appreciation Week at Old Mill!
We were so excited to host Craig’s Jamerican and Mr. Tea food trucks—thank you for filling our day with flavor and fun! Big thanks to Church of the Crossroads for the sweet delivery of Nothing Bundt Cakes! And our staff lit up with joy as classroom wishlist goodies were delivered straight to their doors. We’re so grateful for our amazing team!

Have you heard the exciting news?!
Our natural playground is officially open, and Phase 1 is complete! Thanks to the support of our PTO and school community, students are already enjoying the slide, obstacle course, sand pit, and climbing rocks—and they LOVE it!
The next round of APEX fundraising will help bring Phase 2 to life, and we can’t wait to keep building this outdoor space where learning and play come together.

Today we’re celebrating the powerhouse behind the scenes—our instructional support team! Thank you to Mrs. Reibert, Mrs. Marker, Mrs. Keown, Mrs. Lindsay Miller, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Deutsch, Mrs. Forman, Mrs. Carlisle, Mrs. Clan, Mrs. Bleemel, Mrs. Nuckolls, and Ms. Michel. Whether it’s coaching, intervention, tutoring, or stepping into any classroom at a moment’s notice, each of you plays a vital role in helping our students and staff succeed. Your flexibility, support, and heart make a lasting impact every single day. We appreciate you deeply!

Today we’re celebrating our mighty “Special Forces” team! Ms. Clements, Mrs. Hodges, Mrs. Foushee, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Campos, Ms. Amanda, Mrs. Marrs, Ms. Michelle, Ms. Bailey, Ms. Laura, and Ms. Tori—your compassion, flexibility, and commitment to students is simply unmatched. You go above and beyond every single day, and we are so thankful for you!

Let’s hear it for our incredible Related Arts team—Mrs. Compton, Mrs. Mason, Mrs. Boston, and Mrs. Biglari! From creativity in the arts to movement, music, and innovation, you each bring something special to our students’ day. You help our Koalas express themselves, explore their talents, and experience learning in meaningful, hands-on ways. Thank you for making Old Mill a vibrant and dynamic place to grow!

Day 1 of Staff Appreciation Week was a hit!
We hope our incredible staff felt all the love today! From relaxing hand massages at the Kozy Koala Hand Spa, to a delicious breakfast provided by the Pinkerton and Marinesi families, a pizza lunch from the Meyers family, and sweet treats from the Figg family—it was a day full of appreciation (and full bellies!). We are so thankful for our amazing school community for helping us kick off this week in the best way!

We’re starting Staff Appreciation Week by shining the spotlight on two of the best—Mrs. Wortham and Ms. Maddie! Our preschool team brings joy, patience, and a whole lot of love to our youngest learners each and every day. Thank you for laying the foundation with such care and heart!

It’s time for the ultimate showdown—Cats vs. Cards for a great cause!
Starting TODAY, we’re joining Bullitt County Public Schools in raising money for Special Olympics Kentucky through a little friendly competition.
Old Mill families and staff, choose your team and donate to help us meet (or beat!) our $800 goal!

Hats off to our amazing kindergarten crew—Mrs. Yocum, Mrs. Myers, Ms. Bader, Ms. Wells, Ms. Winnia, Ms. Denise and Ms. Hibbs! You create a world where learning is magical, routines are comforting, and every child feels seen and loved. We’re so lucky to have each of you shaping the start of our students’ journeys!

We are incredibly grateful to the Bullitt East FFA for bringing their expertise, energy, and passion to our Ag Day! Their members shared their knowledge on everything from cows to chickens to horses and so much more. Our students loved learning from them and left with a deeper appreciation for agriculture and all it involves. Thank you, Bullitt East FFA, for making Ag Day such a memorable and inspiring experience!

Join us for Hat Day this Thursday to support our Special Olympics fundraiser! Bring $1 and let your teacher know if you're Team Cards or Team Cats—we’ll make sure your donation goes in the right bucket!

We’re giving a heartfelt shout-out to the incredible women who support the whole child at Old Mill—Mrs. Kelsey, our school therapist; Mrs. Melcher, our counselor; and Mrs. Lawson, our Family Resource Coordinator. Whether they’re helping students navigate big feelings, supporting families through challenges, or creating safe spaces to grow and heal, these three bring unmatched care and compassion to our school community. Thank you for being the heart of our student support system!

Let’s gear up to celebrate a fun-filled Field Day together!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a good reminder that our kids need extra moments this month to check in—ask how they’re feeling, make space for quiet time, and show them it’s okay to talk about emotions.
The little things we do every day can help our children grow up feeling safe, heard, and supported. We appreciate your continued partnership Old Mill families!

Our 4th graders wrapped up their novel study of The Wild Robot in the most creative way—by becoming engineers! This week, they put their imaginations and problem-solving skills to work, designing and building their very own robots. From concept to creation, these projects brought literature to life through hands-on learning.
