Here's another entry in our BAMS GE/Tiny House series: The Water Transportation Support System!
This time, we'll focus on the BCPS Graduate Profile Competency of Effective Communicator. For all of these projects, students must effectively communicate between each other, GE, and others. They do this by demonstrating active listening, conveying ideas in different ways, and engaging others in productive discourse!

Of course, every one of our projects see students practicing the Graduate Profile Competency of Productive Collaborator.
In this project, students have been collaborating not only with GE and each other, but also experts to ensure their project is as good as can be. They are always taking other viewpoints and applying constructive feedback to reach their goals!

Here's our fourth entry in the General Electric/Tiny Home Project Series:
We present to you: the Modular Living Roof!
Students in each project practice the Graduate Profile Competency of Self-Directed Navigator.
In this project, students have been practicing this competency from the beginning. In order to develop this project, group members first determined their outcome - how could they design a product for the Tiny Home that would improve the life of its occupant? They proposed many different projects, eventually deciding on this one. From there, they continue to be in control: the group decides how to research, how to prototype, how to communicate - everything!

In our third General Electric/Tiny Home Project Series, we present: the Collapsable Bathroom Counter!
In all of these projects, students practice the Graduate Profile Competency of Innovative Problem Solver.
A great example of that can be seen in this project. Students took information about their target audience and evaluated multiple ideas for how they can make the lives of that audience easier. Knowing the outcomes they wanted, they were able to decide on the unique solution of a sink and counter that could collapse, thus creating more space in the tiny home when not in use! In order to create their innovative solution, they've had to analyze information from many areas including plumbing and carpentry.

In our second General Electric/Tiny Home Project Series, we present: The Voice Activated Window Shade!
As with all of these projects, our BAMS students practice the Graduate Profile Competency of Mastery Learner.
For example, this project has been through multiple iterations, including being activated by remote instead of voice. For each iteration, students must learn about what makes their project work. In this case, students have studied things like electrical circuits, voltage/amperage, radio waves, pulley systems, and pulley systems. All the while, they make adjustments based on new knowledge, show perseverance, and tackle new learning challenges.

Exciting news from the Bullitt Advanced Math and Science Program! Our students have been collaborating with General Electric on a truly impactful project. Together, we've been designing and implementing crucial additions to a tiny home, tailored specifically for women who have faced trafficking or domestic violence situations.
These thoughtful additions aren't just enhancements; they're designed to aid in the rehabilitation process, enabling these brave women to transition into a more normal and secure life. Our students have meticulously researched and considered the diverse needs of the women who may occupy these homes, including those with disabilities.
It's been an eye-opening journey, delving into various scenarios to ensure that every aspect is designed with empathy and practicality. This collaboration has been a testament to the power of innovation and compassion, aiming to provide these resilient individuals with a safe and supportive environment.
We're incredibly proud of our students' dedication and the partnership with GE, marking a significant step toward making a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.
Over the next several days, we will be sharing one "Project Shoutout" each day, along with highlighting a component of the Bullitt County Graduate Profile that students practice while working on their projects.

One of the BCPS Graduate Profile competencies that all students practice during this project is Community Contributor. Their projects are all specifically designed to help the women mentioned above - members of our community. Our students are extremely thoughtful and intentional in every aspect of their design process, a focus that is especially present because they know their end goal is to help others.

Our BAMS marine biology class dove into the fascinating world of earthworms with a hands-on dissection. Recently, students have been studying marine animals' symmetry, nervous system arrangements, and niche, and were able to delve deep into understanding the complexities of life underwater. The earthworm dissection offered a closer look at both its external and internal structures, unveiling the secrets behind how these creatures execute essential life functions. From observing the intricate details to unraveling nature's marvels, every cut and discovery taught us something new. Here's to exploring the unseen and unlocking the wonders of life!
