Today, CRC and BAMS students participated in our annual State Tourism Fair. Students researched each state's government, economy, culture, and more. Groups then presented their findings while other students "toured" the states by visiting each group for their presentations.
Students and staff then vote for their favorite presentation. This year, the winners are:
BAMS: Kansas
CRC: Illinois
Overall: Illinois
Congratulations to those groups and to all involved!

On Wednesday, our BVLA Middle School students joined at here at ROC to take the Pathways to Proficiency district assessment. They had an extended lunch break so that Ms. Ashley Copeland , art extraordinaire, could join us to teach a quick lesson on self portraits!
It was wonderful and we are thankful that Ms. Copeland was willing to donate her time and talent!

Students in our BAMS Marine Biology class participated in an oil spill simulation. Students created their own crude oil and were able to test which sorbents worked best. Students tested rags, cotton balls, coffee filters, sponges and more. Students even were able to see the effects of detergent on the oil spill. At the end of the lab students made claims in regards to which sorbet may be used in a real oil spill and used evidence to support their claims.
While this touches on several parts of the BCPS Graduate Profile, it is a great example of the Community Contributor component, as students are working on ways to help improve the global community.

Today, BAMS students worked hard on moving their GE Engineering projects forward! After brainstorming many ideas for their projects or ways to improve projects from last year, they worked to determine which ideas would be: (a) easiest to build/design and (b) which would be most effective for solving the problems they identified.

Yesterday, sophomore BAMS students in English learned how genre influences the writing style of a story. Students were given the same prompt but had the opportunity to work with genres such as fairytale, mystery, tragedy, romance and more. Students presented these projects in front of their peers and were able to see first hand just how influential the chosen genre was on their story.
