Old Mill Elementary School

Over the past few weeks, 4th grade students have been diving into Plant and Animal Mysteries, applying their knowledge of structures and functions to solve challenging animal health scenarios. Given cases where animals faced unique problems, students analyzed symptoms, explored the potential role of plants, and developed thoughtful treatment plans. They diagnosed their animals' issues, provided reasoning for their conclusions, and researched ways to heal their patients. This week, the project reached an exciting milestone with a visit from Dr. Ingram, Mrs. Amanda, and Maple Bacon, the golden retriever, from Elk Creek Animal Hospital. The vet team gave students a behind-the-scenes look at their work, demonstrated how to perform a dog exam, and offered valuable insights into animal care. Students had the incredible opportunity to present their treatment plans and receive feedback, showcasing just how much they’ve learned! This project exemplifies authentic learning at its best, with students building on all Graduate Profile components and shining as Mastery Learners! Amazing work, 4th grade!

🎶 On the third day of Christmas, the leadership gave to me: Some yummy donuts and carols with glee! 🍩🎵 Clash of the Carolers—a festive showdown where teams bring the holiday spirit through song! Who will take the crown for the best carolers? Stay tuned to find out! 🎤✨

Koalas Celebrate Successes! ✨ This weekend was a big weekend for several of our students! From football banquets to cheer competitions, the end of the basketball league, cross country meets, and dance performances, our Koalas are making us proud in so many ways! At Old Mill, we know that success is about more than what happens in the classroom—it’s about hard work, dedication, and passion in every area of life. Keep reaching for the stars, Koalas—we’re so proud of you!

On the second day of Christmas, my school gave to me...A festive hot chocolate bar loaded with all your favorite toppings! ☕ Today our staff also brought in ornaments that represented them for our staff tree!

This month, students learned about the successful reintroduction of elk to Kentucky and the ongoing work to protect endangered species like the hellbender.
